Gap Analysis is a real-time, AI-assisted layer inside the personal tax information request. It now engages your client during submission, prompting them for missing or ambiguous information while they are still in the flow. The aim is a more complete first submission and fewer follow-ups from your team.
How your clients experience it
The experience adapts based on whether you have attached an aide-memoire to the information request.
With an aide-memoire attached
The chat-style submission runs as it does today. The client uploads documents and answers questions about prior-year gaps, applicability for this year, and any topics you have flagged. The final “submitted” step is now held back until a short set of triage questions has also been answered, giving the AI — and you — a final check before the request is closed off.
Without an aide-memoire attached
The AI walks the client through your triage questions one at a time. Once each has been answered, the request is automatically marked as submitted and the client is free to leave. The AI will only ask clarifying sub-questions if the client volunteers further information or queries the original question — keeping the conversation light and focused.
Configuring your triage questions
Triage questions are attached to an information request — or its template — via a simple text area in the wizard. A default set is provided and can be edited or removed inline:
1. Has anything changed in your personal or financial circumstances this year compared to last?
2. Do you have any new sources of income we didn’t deal with last year?
3. Have you sold, gifted, or disposed of any assets this year — including property, shares, or cryptocurrency?
4. Have you made any pension contributions, charitable donations, or other reliefs outside of PAYE?
5. Is there anything else — however small — that you think we should know about?
What this means for your firm
This is a light, fast first pass designed to improve completeness while the client is still engaged. It does not replace your existing internal gap analysis — that flow continues unchanged. Expect fewer back-and-forth emails, better-prepared submissions, and a clearer view of new circumstances year on year.
