Personal Tax Working Papers

Learn how to generate, review and verify personal tax working papers in Glasscubes, checking each figure against its source document before submission.

Working papers show how each figure on a return was arrived at, tying it back to source documents and calculations, so it can be checked, reviewed, and defended later, whether that's by a manager, a new team member, or during an HMRC enquiry.

Generating a working paper

Open the client's completed personal tax information request and select Generate Working Paper.

Please note: the working paper function will only become available once a personal tax information request has been fully verified.

You'll see a message confirming that generation has started, and you'll receive an in-app notification and an email once it's ready.

Reviewing and verifying items

Results appear on the left of the screen, grouped by form (SA100, SA102, SA105, and so on).

Select any item to see its value, confidence score, the reasoning behind it, and a link to the source document, so you can check the figure and the calculation before relying on it.

For each item, select Mark verified to confirm it's correct, adding notes if needed, or Correct value to enter the right figure, the reason it was wrong, and any notes. Select Save to update the item.

Adding information from outside Glasscubes

Adding to an existing form

If you hold information that wasn't gathered through the client's request, you can add it to a current working paper form.

Click the plus icon, then enter the field, value, and any notes. This item is shown as verified manually.

Enter the relevant details and click Add Field.

Adding a new form

If you need to bring in a completely new accountancy form, such as an SA101, select Add form.

Select the form type you require, then click Add.

The additional form will be added to the bottom of your working paper list; just click the plus button to enter further details.

Downloading your working paper

Once everything's reviewed, select Download Working Paper to save it as a PDF.
