MTD Assist: Getting Started

This easy to follow onboarding guide will walk you through setting up your clients for MTD Assist.

Updated this week

Allow 30 minutes to complete the steps in this guide. It will walk you through the recommended way to configure Glasscubes and set up your clients for MTD for ITSA, which:

  • Provides a simple, efficient way for your clients to meet HMRC’s quarterly requirements.

  • Helps maintain a strong accountant-client relationship while collaborating securely from the client’s workspace.

  • Sends automated reminders to clients, prompting them to supply their information on time.

  • Provides real-time reporting to monitor the progress of client's submissions.

Administrators only

A Glasscubes Administrator must complete the following steps. You can have more than one Administrator, but we recommend keeping the number to a minimum.

An Administrator can change the platform’s configuration settings, add and remove users, and has full access to the account's contents.

Now, click on and follow the steps below:

1. Start by deciding who will be paying for MTD Assist

There are two options available to you:

  • Glasscubes bills your clients directly – £36 + VAT per client per year
Follow the steps below for this option.

  • Your firm is billed at a discounted rate - £24 + VAT per client per year

This is the default option and is already set up within your account; no further action is required.

Setting up direct client billing for MTD Assist:

To access the account settings, click on your initials at the top right corner of the screen and select ‘Account settings’ from the drop-down menu.

Go to the billing section of your account and check the box 'Bill MTD annual licenses directly to clients'.

2. Brand your account

Add your firm’s name and logo to the branding section, which will appear in MTD Assist and email notifications that are sent by the system.

3. Create your workspace structure

A workspace is a permission-controlled client area. You will need a workspace for each client. If you require quantities of workspaces to be created, please contact your Glasscubes Customer Success Manager, who will assist you in creating them in bulk.

When you create your workspaces, several features can be enabled.

When creating a workspace for MTD purposes, only enable the ‘MTD’ feature (others can be added later if required).

4. Connecting your client to MTD Assist

Firstly, choose whether your client will make submissions directly to HMRC themselves, or whether you would prefer to review those submissions prior to them being sent.

Then click 'Next'

Enter the client's name, email address, and National Insurance number, and then click 'Send Invite'.

The client will then receive a personalised and branded invitation, inviting them to set up MTD Assist.

5. Adding team members

Users are invited to the platform by navigating to 'Account settings > User management.'

Add their email address, select the workspaces you want to give them access to, and assign them the appropriate permissions. This will typically be as a 'Contributor'. Here are some more detailed instructions.

As Glasscubes is a client-facing communication tool, we highly recommend that all team members upload their profile pictures to their profiles. This makes the platform feel more personal and welcoming to your clients.

6. Ready for MTD for ITSA

You're all set up!

As a thank you for becoming a new client, we would like to extend to you an exclusive offer: Enrol your first 10 clients before 31st December 2025, and they’ll receive MTD Assist free for the first tax year.
